The Wines

2018 White Gold

RRP: $30.00

From Orange in 2011 the best wines were Sparkling in my humble opinion. I have kept an eye (metaphorical) on the wine for the last two years.

7 years on lees is wine lunacy in Australia (but not Champagne). It’s got all the breading: Chardonnay, Pinot Meuniere and Pinot Noir. The wine was disgorged in November this year ready for now. It won’t improve by the way, but it will hold in its present quality condition for a few years.

Back to the story: When I tasted the wine recently it was like the Remington Shaver Ad. I bought the lot! So, there will be a Gentleman’s Daughter aplenty. Foundation Wine Club members I toast you. I was brave enough to commit to all the wine because its loved mostly by you. For our functions which you have priority on, it will be served on arrival.

Seriously though its that biscuity smell and slight hay seed taste that gives it cred. Its old but it’s tasty and it’s old and complex.

For years I have threatened to make another Dolly Parton Chardonnay. You know the ones that were strong in alcohol, matured in new oak forever, 150% Chardonnay and after a couple of sips you have a big smile.

I had some form with this style: Those that knew me back in the early 80’s when I pumped out Cowra Chardonnay which caused a traffic jam in Stockholm when it was released in Sweden. The difference is, its not as over the top, not so Dolly Parton. I love to drink it now.

15.3% alcohol from vines planted in 1970 on the Lue Road 8 kms east of Mudgee. Old vines, old winemaker, new market!!!!
