Block 8 is our main Shiraz block and is sand and clay dominant underground. The grapes produced by these vines tend to show rounder, more ripe tannins with black fruits and olive characters. These characteristics create a more upfront and appealing young wine, with less ageing needed.
With just three years under its belt, the 2017 Block 8 shows up strong yet not very dry. Fermented in open wax lined concrete fermenters prior to 12 months maturation in 2250 L American oak casks, the oak works to soften the natural tannins rather than create any overt flavours.
The wine is expected to become a gentle giant in 3 – 5 years, or enjoy now with roasted vegetables, spaghetti or even some curry.
