A north facing block on red soil our Merlot vines are the only trellised variety on the Lowe property. Kept low to the ground and reaching only 1 metre, these systems mirror that of those in Pomerol France. The grapes produced are very perfumed with soft tannins but strong in alcohol.
The grapes are dry grown, certified organic and biodynamic, harvested in line with the biodynamics calendar and then fermented with natural yeast in open fermenters. Followed by maturation for 18 months in French Nevers oak puncheons.
David’s been chasing the dream of world class Merlot in Mudgee for 30 years and has never been closer. Medium bodied with soft tannins, the wine is delicious and suitable for consumption for now until 2025.
